The Barco MEGASETTER is a highthroughput imagesetter for large film sizes: 1612 x 1200 mm 63.5" x 47.2". The MEGASETTER is a technical marvel, capable of outputting films at a high resolution and with a very high accuracy and repeatability.

The MEGASETTER has been especially created for applications where large film sizes and outstanding accuracy are essential. One such application is Commercial Printing & Publishing where single pages have to be assembled. Other applications as packaging and cartography require the exposure of large, single images.

Barco’s CLASSIC SCREENS provide the necessary high quality dot shapes and screen angles for all these applications. The optional Barco MONET SCREENS, the best stochastic screening technology for flexo applications in packaging, give more detail and sharpness to the printed
result.

Savings in time and money
Large plate ready signatures are produced by assembling different film parts on a mounting foil. This is a very time consuming and costly process, where quality is linked to the skills of the people involved. The MEGASETTER produces the final film directly and cuts production
time and cost by reducing the labor and the material consumption. One film can hold a printready 16 up imposition or two 8 up impositions! The MEGASETTER runs without attendance,
which is guaranteed with an input cassette having a capacity of 25 film sheets and a film conveyor to an on line processor.

Outstanding speed at high resolutions
The MEGASETTER is based on the proven technology of all Barcos imagesetters: an external drum revolving at high speed with an optics carriage hovering on air bearings over a solid granite bed driven by an integral linear DC motor.

Several versions are available:
· Optics 100, resolutions 1000, 1270 and 2000 ppi (2540, 4000 and 5080 ppi are optional)

· Optics 300 S, resolutions 1000, 1270 and 2000 ppi, for speed. This version exposes a full size film in less than 7 minutes at 1270 ppi.

· Optics 300 Q, resolutions 2000, 2540 and 4000 ppi (5080 ppi is optional) for highest image quality

· Optics 600 S, resolutions 1000, 1270 and 2000 ppi, for highest speed. This version even halves the exposure time of the 300 S version.

· Optics 600 Q, resolutions 2000, 2540 and 4000 ppi for highest image quality

Unique photographic distortion
The Barco MEGASETTER offers a unique distortion feature: modifying the resolution of the imagesetter by the desired amount scales the created image. No pixels are added or removed, but the pixels themselves are scaled the result is the same as if the image were magnified or reduced photographically. Consequently, dot shapes and screen angles remain intact. The distortion can be applied independently to both horizontal and vertical directions. This is an extremely helpful feature to compensate the stretching of flexo plates when wrapped around the cylinder or for fan out. The distortion factor ranges from 90% to 110% (depending on the optical system) and can be set in steps of 0.001%.

FASTRIP compatible
Large films imply large data volumes. The MEGASETTER is driven by Barco’s FASTRIP which is designed to keep up with the very high speed of the MEGASETTER. This RIP runs on the DEC Alpha AXP and rips data on the fly.
